SPT have been providing small grants of £250 to help women to start small businesses, so they no longer need to rely on sex work to earn a living. Free education is not provided in Uganda, but Alive School allows 1/3 of its students to attend without paying any fees, and provides all students with two meals everyday. Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, Dr. Tobias Keene brings a bit of unabashed Southern hospitality to all his patients. He moved to Washington, D.C. over thirty years ago as a freshman at Ivy College. Right after graduation, he attended World University’s School of Dentistry. Before opening Keene Dental in 1994, he worked for free clinics and some of the finest practices in the District. He is part of the 123 Dental Association and stays up-to-date on the latest dental discoveries. Our ideal is to fund projects where the profits will benefit a group of people (such as funding an orphanage) instead of just benefiting individuals. We also give churches grants to start businesses, so that they are able to fund their outreach and ministry in a self-sustaining way. For example in India, SPT gave a grant of £1000 to a Pastor to start a small welding business. The profits of this each month were divided between paying his church staff team, and paying for the care and shelter of homeless widows. A grant as small as £125 can be enough capital to start a small business in some countries. The Guild of St. John and St. Mary Magdalene is a global fellowship and ministry of prayer. Members gather together both in person, with many different local ‘Guild Chapters’, or gather together virtually online to pray into specific situations of need. The Guild seeks to be a friend to the outcast, and to build up and encourage those who feel small, forgotten or vulnerable. It demonstrates and is an extension of the relational approach of SPT. The Saints’ Projects Trust was started in 2006 and has supported projects in India, Nepal, Ghana, Uganda, Malawi, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and Tanzania. We partner with local churches to deliver small projects that transform lives. Through these partnerships, we are able to quickly discover where the most need is in the community, and then assess together with church leaders how best to use our resources to help. Although we prefer to fund education and small business projects as a way of encouraging self-sufficiency, we also give donations to provide urgent medical treatment, to enable the care of orphans, and to support church ministry. We have very few running costs as an organisation. We don’t have an office and rely heavily on the generous time given by our trustees. A substantial amount of our core costs are spent on trustee site visits, which we see as crucial to both monitor project progress and to nurture relationships with the people we are supporting. SPT is a Christian charity, and was established to support The Guild of St. John and St. Mary Magdalene, a prayer network made up of thousands of members worldwide. This will enable Pastor Deus, the school principal and founder, to start a Boda-Boda motorcycle taxi business. The profits of this business will fund the ongoing costs of the school, such as rent, teachers’ salaries, and meals for the children. Boda-Bodas are one of the most popular ways to travel around Kampala as fares are cheap and the motorbikes can weave through the traffic. They range in age from 6 to 25, sleep on the streets, battle drug use, and lack food and basic necessities. Sister Allen regularly meets with them and shares the Word of God. She is requesting a Christmas package of rice, meat, flour, sugar and soap for each of these 23 young people. The 10 children are a mixture of orphans, street children and those suffering from leprosy, TB, or AIDS. Babu provides food, shelter, clothes and Christian education. He also helps 35 widows and aged mothers who are neglected by society and unable to work, providing rice, provisions and medicine and sharing with them the love of Christ.
